It seems like Spring has started here in Berlin. I got in with the 8.00 p.m. flight from Milan, which I almost managed to miss because I went (on time) to the wrong airport, so I had to hop on a Taxi and run as fast as possible to Malpensa. I managed to do a Telecheck-in via telephone (great innovation) which allowed me to get on board 10 min. before take-off.

I posted my opinion to the Jabber list about the Trade Mark issues that have been raised lately: Up to now I had not thought about the TM as a big issue. I may have taken for granted that Jabber was an Open Source project and as such, there could be no TM problems related. Given the current conversation, I may have been wrong, but I really hope I am not :-) As Tipic, we are investing heavily on the technology; a native Jabber Server for Win32 is now available and it works fine; we think we have pushed the envelop further and helped broaden the Jabber user base. We also have taken a lot (thanks to Jeremie, the Open Source Developers and Jabber.com). Jabber must gain momentum, it is still small and should grow fast attracting as many developers and companies possible, to make it a successful and lasting technology. I really hope that a definitive position is taken by the Board Memebers;this will clear the way for further development of Jabber and the great technology that has that name; the issue has been raised and it is under the radar screen, please solve it ASAP. Now these news make me think about all the money poured into 3G licenses here in Europe, when there is a technology that uses free spectrum. It is hard to explain to Telcos that their investment in the 3G spectrum may be worth even less than they thought: DoCoMo to launch Wi-Fi trial: integrated billing might be an incentive for use.
The new Beta of Tipic Instant Messaging Platform is out. I tried it on my PC and it installed smootly. The installer and the Admin tools have ben greatly improved. It is amazing to run a chatroom on my PC :-)
A nice day in Milan, the sun is shining and the temperature is mild. I even saw some turists walk around in T-shirts; hard to be at a computer today ;-)
Distributing content through different platforms? that's what Tipic's platform does. A Jabber Server Integrated with a Content Management System and a Profiling System. Very powerful stuff made easy! Yes we started with this idea and have been developing the building blocks.
TipicIM 0.7 is almost ready for distribution. This version includes SSL support, Conference, NetMeeting Support and more.
We had a great meeting today. We outlined the short term deliverables and long term vision of Tipic's products. Next week we will ship a new Beta of TW32JS (the last before the commercial product) and version 0.7 of TipicIM :-) |
